The International Conference on Sanskrit Studies 2016 themed ‘ Enhancing the Research Arena of Sanskrit Studies’ organized by the Department of Sanskrit of the University of Kelaniya was held on 04th November 2016 at the K14 Hall of the University.

The keynote speech of this conference was delivered by the Visiting Senior Fellow of the Department of Sanskrit, Professor Gauri Mahulikar of the University of Mumbai, India and a special lecture was conducted by Senior and Chair Professor R M W Rajapakshe of the Department of Linguistics.

96 papers under the tracks; Sanskrit Literature, Sanskrit Grammar, Buddhist Sanskrit Studies, Hinduism and Philosophy, Vastu and Astrology, Yoga and Life Style, Mahayana Buddhism, Sri Lankan Sanskrit, Computational Sanskrit, Linguistics on Sanskrit, Literary Criticism and Modern Trends on Sanskrit were presented at this conference.

Senior Professor Sunanda Madduma Bandara- the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Professor Lakshman Senevirathne- Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Kapila Senevirathne- Dean of the Faculty of Science, Senior Professor M J S Wijerathne- Chairman of the Research Council, Mrs. Rajashree Behera- Director of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ven. Walapane Gnanasena thero- Head of the Department of Sanskrit, the academic staff, presenters and students participated in this event.
