The Inclusivity Centre of the Faculty of Humanities was officially opened on the 28th April 2023. During a ceremony which was held at the university premises with the participation of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, undergraduates with/out disabilities, and dignitaries from the AHEAD project and the World Bank, the Centre was officially opened for the academic activities of undergraduates.
Dr. Sudath Senarath, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, met the students with disabilities to inquire about the issues they face within the university. Dr. Senarath discussed ways in which technical equipment and assistance can be given to the students to build a more accessible and inclusive environment to support their academic endeavors.
Dr. Dinesha Samararatne, a senior lecturer of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo acts as the resource person to draft the inclusivity policy of the Faculty of Humanities. In November 2022, Dr. Samararatne facilitated a focus group discussion with the undergraduates with disabilities of the Faculty of Humanities with the objective of identifying the academic and other requirements of these students. Following the discussion, Dr. Samararatne visited the faculty premises with Ms. Sabreena Niles, the founding director of the Inclusivity Centre and Isuru Rathanayake.
