The Department of English Language Teaching (DELT) of the University of Kelaniya successfully held its 3rd TESL Undergraduate Research Symposium on 25th November 2025, marking a significant step forward in promoting undergraduate research and scholarly engagement. The event offered an enriching platform for TESLiers to present their research, exchange academic insights, and contribute to emerging discussions in English language teaching.
The keynote speech was delivered by Ms. Dinali Ariyasinghe, a distinguished alumna of DELT and a lecturer at the English Language Teaching Center of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine. Currently pursuing her PhD in Language Acquisition in Multilingual Settings at the University of the Basque Country, her keynote centered on the importance of conducting research and its significance in developing informed, reflective, and effective teaching practices. Her insightful address motivated students to approach research with curiosity, academic rigor, and a strong sense of purpose.
The symposium featured a diverse range of undergraduate research studies covering areas such as second language acquisition, TESL pedagogy, multilingual learning environments, assessment practices, and classroom dynamics. Academics and attendees commended the growing quality and depth of student research, reflecting the department’s ongoing commitment to fostering a strong research culture.
By providing a supportive and intellectually engaging environment, the 3rd TESL Undergraduate Research Symposium reaffirmed DELT’s dedication to shaping capable, reflective, and research-informed educators and scholars in the field of English Language Teaching.
