Presentation Formats
Paper
Each paper presentation will be allotted 20 minutes inclusive of illustrations and examples, plus 10 minutes for questions and discussion. The Program Committee organized individual proposals that have been accepted into thematically related sessions.
Panel
The program includes two pre-organized 120-minute panel sessions. A panel consists of a group of four papers that are entirely planned, coordinated, and prepared by a group of presenters, one of whom is the responsible coordinator/chair.
Film
Four films are placed in the respective film sessions and one more together with paper presentations.
Keynote Speaker
Tan Sooi Beng is an Honorary Professor of Ethnomusicology at the School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. She is the author of Bangsawan: A Social and Stylistic History of Popular Malay Opera (Oxford University Press, 1993), and co-author of Music of Malaysia: Classical, Folk and Syncretic Traditions (Routledge, 2017) and Longing for the Past, the 78 RPM Era in Southeast Asia (Dust-to-Digital 2013), which won the joint SEM Bruno Nettl Prize, 2014. She is the editor of Eclectic Cultures for All: The Development of the Peranakan Performing, Visual and Material Arts in Penang (USM Press, 2019). Tan serves on the Advisory Editorial Board of Asian Music (USA). She is an elected Vice-President of the International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance (ICTMD) and co-edited its digital publication Dialogues: Towards Decolonizing Music and Dance Studies, 2021. Tan is actively engaged in community theatre for peacebuilding among young people and is involved in revitalizing the Potehi glove puppet theatre of Penang through documentation and localized performances. She collaborated with the traditional performers and young people of Penang to publish the multimedia book set entitled Potehi Glove Puppet Theatre of Penang, an Evolving Heritage (GTWHI, 2017).

Definition:
The International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance is a scholarly organization which aims to further the study, practice, documentation, preservation, and dissemination of traditional music and dance of all countries. To these ends the Council organizes World Conferences, Symposia, Colloquia, and Fora, and publishes the Yearbook for Traditional Music and the online Bulletin of the ICTMD.
As a non-governmental organization in formal consultative relations with UNESCO and by means of its wide international representation and the activities of its Study Groups, the International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance acts as a bond among peoples of different cultures and thus contributes to the peace of humankind.

ICTMD Study Group on Music and Minorities
Mission Statement
For the purpose of this Study Group, the term minority means communities, groups and/or individuals, including indigenous, migrant and other vulnerable groups that are at higher risk of discrimination on grounds of ethnicity, race, religion, language, gender, sexual orientation, disability, political opinion, social or economic deprivation.
The Study Group focuses on music and minorities by means of research, documentation and interdisciplinary study. It serves as a forum for cooperation among scholars through meetings, publications and correspondence.

Mission Statement
The ICTMD Study Group on Indigenous Music and Dance aims to deepen understanding and awareness of music and dance within local and indigenous cultures around the world. Our meetings and publications welcome participants from a wide variety of backgrounds, including traditional performers and educators. We are committed to ethical research collaborations that benefit local and indigenous communities and support local and indigenous performers and educators to maintain their music-and-dance knowledge and practices.
