The tide of Wisdom Waves successfully launched its third phase on 29th December 2025, by the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT), Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya. The project was initiated as a workshop for Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) undergraduates, with the primary objective of enhancing the English language proficiency of ESL learners in rural areas.

Wisdom Wave 3.0 was conducted at Ginthota Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Galle, with a focus on developing the speaking and listening skills of students from Grade 1 to Grade 5. The teaching sessions were carried out under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Mrs. Gevani Prahalathan, Project Director Mrs. Nipuni Prabodhika, Project Coordinator Mr. Janith Muthugala, along with the academic staff of the department.

The project proved to be a remarkable and enriching experience for all participants. As part of the initiative, books were donated to the Vice Principal of the Ginthota Dharmapala Vidyalaya, symbolizing the department’s support for the future academic journey of the school. In addition, all undergraduates actively collaborated in designing creative lesson materials, ensuring that the teaching sessions were engaging, interactive, and enjoyable for young learners.

Beyond its impact on school students, Wisdom Wave 3.0 served as a significant milestone in the professional development of TESL undergraduates. The project offered them valuable opportunities to reflect on their teaching practices, refine their pedagogical skills, and confront real-world classroom management challenges.

Reflecting on the successful completion of Wisdom Wave 3.0, our deepest gratitude extends to everyone who dedicated their time and effort to this project.

As the tide of English continues to rise, we look for the next horizon, continuing our mission to empower young Sri Lankan ESL learners with the gift of language.

The Teaching English as a Second Language Students’ Association (TESLSA) continued its ongoing support for disaster-affected communities through Phase 2 of its Flood Relief Project, held on 25th December 2025 at Sri Bodhi Rukharama Temple, Kolmbissa, Hanguranketha. The initiative focused on assisting children whose education had been disrupted by recent floods and landslides.

During the program, 64 students were provided with essential school materials, including school bags, books, pencil cases, writing instruments, and water bottles. These contributions were intended to facilitate a smooth return to learning and mitigate the educational setbacks caused by the natural disaster.

The distribution was coordinated on-site by Ms. Nipuni Hakadewaththe, Senior Treasurer of TESLSA, who ensured that the process was conducted efficiently and that each student received the necessary support. Phase 2 follows the earlier success of TESLSA’s flood relief initiatives and underscores the association’s sustained dedication to community welfare.
