Concludes the tenure as Head of the Department

Senior Professor Venerable Makuruppe Dhammananda Nayaka Thera, who rendered distinguished service as the Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya, served in that position for six years from 2020 until 11 March 2026.
During his tenure, he rendered invaluable service to the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, the Faculty of Humanities, and the University as a whole, especially while facing numerous challenges and difficulties during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
He made great efforts to ensure that the academic activities of students continued without disruption. As a result of his dedication and compassionate leadership, he earned the respect and affection of both local and international students.
By maintaining strong international relations, he was also able to contribute greatly to the development of the department. Furthermore, he maintained cordial and friendly relationships with both academic and non-academic staff, ensuring that the affairs of the department were carried out smoothly and effectively.
The ceremony organized today to mark the completion of his tenure as Head of the Department was graced by several distinguished guests, including the Chief Incumbent of Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara and Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Most Venerable Aggamahāpandita Kollupitiye Mahinda Saṅgharakkhita Nayaka Thera; the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Professor Nilanthi de Silva; and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Sudath Senarath, together with many other distinguished invitees.
The event was held with great dignity and participation, attended by the academic and non-academic staff of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, as well as members of the academic and non-academic staff of the Faculty of Humanities.
We extend our heartfelt wishes that Senior Professor Venerable Makuruppe Dhammananda Nayaka Thera, who retires today after rendering such honourable service as Head of the Department, may continue to serve the Buddha Sāsana for a long time to come in good health and happiness, with the blessings of the Noble Triple Gem.

උන්වහන්සේගේ සේවා කාලය තුළ අභියෝගාත්මක කොරෝනා වසංගත තත්ත්වය තුළ ඉමහත් දුෂ්කරතාවන්ට මෙන්ම නොයෙක් ආකාරයේ අභියෝගයන්ට මුහුණ දෙමින් උන්වහන්සේ පාලි හා බෞද්ධ අධ්යයන අංශයටත් මානවශාස්ත්ර පීඨයටත් සමස්ත විශ්වවිද්යාලයටත් අමිල සේවාවක් ඉටු කළහ.
විද්යාර්ථීන්ගේ අධ්යාපන කටයුතු නිසි ලෙස පවත්වාගෙන යාම සඳහා උන්වහන්සේ මහත් කැප කිරීමක් කරන ලද අතර දේශීය මෙන්ම විදේශීය විද්යාර්ථීන්ගේ ගෞරවයට හා ආදරයට උන්වහන්සේ නිතැතින්ම පාත්රවන්නාහ.
විදේශ සබඳතා මනා ලෙස පවත්වාගෙන යමින් අධ්යයන අංශය වෙත විශාල සේවාවක් ලබාදීමට උන්වහන්සේ සමත් වූහ. එමෙන්ම උන්වහන්සේ අධ්යයන සහ අනධ්යයන කාර්ය මණ්ඩල සමඟ ද ඉතා සුහදශීලී සහ මිත්රශීලී සබඳතාවක් පවත්වාගනිමින් සියලු කටයුතු නිසියාකාරව සිදුකළහ.
අද දින උන්වහන්සේගේ අංශාධිපති ධුර කාලය නිමා කිරීම වෙනුවෙන් සංවිධානය කර තිබූ උත්සවය සඳහා කැලණිය රජමහා විහාරයේ විහාරාධිපති, කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ කුලපති, සම්මානිත ජ්යේෂ්ඨ මහාචාර්ය, අග්ගමාපණ්ඩිත අතිපූජ්ය කොල්ලුපිටියේ මහින්ද සංඝරක්ඛිත නාහිමියෝ, කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ උපකුලපති මහාචාර්ය නිලන්ති ද සිල්වා මහත්මිය, කැලණිය විශ්ව විද්යාලයේ මානවශාස්ත්ර පීඨාධිපති ආචාර්ය සුදත් සෙනරත් මහතා ඇතුළු සම්භාවනීය පිරිසක් සහභාගී වූහ. තවද මෙම අවස්ථාවට පාලි හා බෞද්ධ අධ්යයන අංශයේ අධ්යයන කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය සහ අනධ්යයන කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය මෙන්ම මානව ශාස්ත්ර පීඨයේ අධ්යයන කාර්ය මණ්ඩල සහ අනධ්යයන කාර්ය මණ්ඩලවල සාමාජිකයන් ද සහභාගිත්වයෙන් ඉතා උත්කර්ෂවත් අයුරින් පැවැත්විණි.
