The Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies at the University of Kelaniya successfully hosted the inaugural exhibition dedicated to Vāstuśāstra in Sri Lanka on August 11 and 12, 2025, on the university premises. This significant event was organized in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and the High Commission of India, aiming to showcase the research and designs of Honours undergraduates specializing in Vāstuśāstra. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya served as the Chief Guest, while Professor Ankuran Dutta, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, acted as the Guest of Honour. The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Sudath Senarath, alongside the Heads of Departments within the Faculty, Senior Professor Patrick Ratnayake, Senior Professor Lakshman Seneviratne, and numerous other academic members, actively participated in the exhibition.

Prominent guest dignitaries included Venerable Professor Nawagamuwe Revatha Thero, Director of Paliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena; Venerable Velimitiyawe Gnanarathana Thero, Director of the Center for Distance and Continuing Education; Venerable Professor Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero; and a substantial number of other distinguished guests were participated in this exhibition.

Notable personalities such as acclaimed racer Dilantha Malagamuwa and singer Amarasiri Peiris, as well as local and international professors and students from partner universities, attended to view the exhibitions. The exhibition served as a unique platform for students to showcase their groundbreaking work and research findings, fostering an environment of innovation and learning. The event's significance transcended national borders, with comprehensive coverage on television channels in India, highlighting the exhibition's international appeal. In conjunction with the exhibition, a dedicated YouTube channel titled Ālaya and a journal by the same name were launched, designed to further feature the students’ exceptional work.

On August 2, 2025, the University of Kelaniya proudly hosted the inaugural ceremony for its Diploma Course in Yoga Philosophy, a prestigious initiative organized by the Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies. The event unfolded in the vibrant setting of the Social Sciences Auditorium, which was filled with eager participants and attendees. Distinguished as the Chief Guest, Swami Gunathithananda Swami, the Chief Advisor of Chinmaya Mission, graced the occasion with his esteemed presence, bringing a sense of tradition and spirituality to the proceedings. The highlight of the evening was a thought-provoking keynote address delivered by Mr. Tharindu Dhananjaya Weerasinghe, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Human Resource Management. His insights captivated the audience, bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and contemporary application. Under the visionary leadership of Senior Lecturer Udawela Revatha Thero, the newly appointed Head of the Department, the event culminated in a celebration of knowledge and cultural heritage. The gathering was further enhanced by the presence of notable figures, including Professor K. B. Jayawardena, the Course Coordinator Senior Lecturer Walapane Gnanasena Thero, and Senior Lecturer Devagoda Piyarathana Thero, along with the dedicated members of the department. Together, they marked this significant milestone, reflecting a deep commitment to the study and practice of yoga philosophy.

The Student Parshad of our department has successfully organized a series of support seminars aimed at assisting students preparing for the Advanced Level Examination this year. These annual seminars provided comprehensive coverage of the subjects including Sanskrit, Pali, Buddhism, Sinhala, and History.

The meeting with international delegates was successfully conducted. Professor Yojana Chandradas from the University of Mumbai visited along with her students to engage in discussions regarding post-graduate opportunities available in India. This significant event was expertly coordinated by Senior Professor Ven. Induragare Dhammaratana, Head, and Senior Lecturer Udawela Rewatha.
