Embracing Excellence: A Reflection on the TESL Students' Association AGM

On the 29th of August 2024, the TESL Students’ Association of the University of Kelaniya held its much-anticipated Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the DELT Auditorium. The event drew a distinguished audience, including lecturers and students from all four batches, creating a vibrant atmosphere of academic camaraderie. The proceedings started with a warm welcome from the outgoing vice president, who shared her reflections on the term.

Her heartfelt speech highlighted the key milestones and successes achieved by the association during her tenure. This was followed by the presentation of the treasurer’s report and a thorough review of the association’s financial activities over the past year. It provided insights into the resources and efforts behind their initiatives. One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the certificate distribution for the participants of “Wisdom Waves”, a flagship project of the association. Participants were recognized for their contributions, and the initiative stood as a testament to the dynamic spirit of the TESL community in encouraging academic excellence and leadership. The outgoing committee then bid a formal farewell, stepping down amidst the emotions stirred by a nostalgic memory lane video.

The video showcased the highlights and hard work of the past term, bringing back cherished memories and underscoring the impact the committee had made on the association. As part of the AGM, a vote was held to appoint the new committee members for the term. The assembly saw a smooth transition of leadership, with the election of the new secretary, president, vice president, junior treasurer, and batch representatives. A new Public Relations (PR) head and a new Editorial head were also appointed, signaling a renewed focus on enhancing communication and student engagement. The newly elected president took to the podium, addressing the attendees with a powerful message of unity and growth. Her speech, filled with enthusiasm and ambition, laid out an exciting vision for the association’s future, promising to build on the strong foundation set by her predecessors. With the formalities concluded, the AGM adjourned, leaving behind a sense of optimism and anticipation. The TESL Students’ Association is poised for another year of success, driven by a fresh wave of leadership and the collective energy of its members.
