Faculty of Humanities

The academic tradition and the history of the Faculty of Humanities dates back to the inception of the Vidyalankara Pirivena. Vidyalankara Higher Educational centre was established in 1875 by the initiative of the most venerable Sri Dharmaloka Thero and upgraded as the Vidyalankara University in 1959. the The most venerable Kiriwaththuduwe Sri Pangnasara Thero was the first vice chancellor of the Vidyalankara University. Today, the former Faculties of the Pirivena, the faculty of Languages, the Faculty of Buddhism and the Faculty of Arts come under the aegis of the Faculty of Humanities. More...

BOOK DONATION BY MARTIN WICKRAMASINGHE TRUST FUND

A Sinhala- Japanese Dictionary composed by Mr. Tadashi Noguchi (worth about Rs.30,000) was donated to the Department of Modern Languages, by the Martin Wickramasinghe Trust Fund with the participation of Mr.Malin Wickramasinghe, the director on 15 th May 2018 at the Faculty of Humanities,University of Kelaniya.

Professor Patrick Rathnayake, Dean of the faculty of Humanities and Dr. Dilrukshi Rathnayake, Head of the Department of modern Languages participated in the event. This dictionary will be used for the betterment of the Japanese learning students of university of Kelaniya.
