The website of the Journal of the Faculty of Humanities was launched on the 2nd of March 2021 by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya Snr Prof Nilanthi de Silva.

The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Sudath Senarath, members of the editorial board and staff members of the Faculty of Humanities.

The launch of ‘Pratīkṣā - 03’ translated short story volume

The launch of ‘Pratīkṣā - 03’, consisting of the short stories translated by the students of Translation Studies (Hons) and Translation Methods of the Department of Linguistics, University of Kelaniya, was held on the 26th January 2021 at the Boardroom of the Faculty of Humanities. This is the 16th short story volume published by the students of the Department of Linguistics. The volume consists of Sinhalese translations of 27 short stories written by French author Guy du Maupassant.

The Vice-chancellor of the University, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva participated as the chief guest of the event and Professor Emeritus R. M. W. Rajapakshe delivered the guest speech. The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Senior Lecturer Sudath Senarath, The Head of the Department of Linguistics, Senior Lecturer Kumudu Nayanie Gamage, and the academic staff of the Department also participated. Students and their parents joined the event via Zoom.  

“ප්‍රතීක්‍ෂා - 03” පරිවර්තිත කෙටිකතා සංග්‍රහය එළිදැක්වීම

කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයීය වාග්විද්‍යා අංශයේ භාෂා පරිවර්තන අධ්‍යයන (ගෞරව) සහ භාෂා පරිවර්තන ක්‍රම අවසන් වසර විද්‍යාර්ථීන් විසින් පරිවර්තනය කරන ලද කෙටිකතා ඇතුළත් “ප්‍රතීක්‍ෂා - 03” කෘතිය එළිදැක්වීම 2021 ජනවාරි මස 26 වන දින මානවශාස්ත්‍ර පීඨ රැස්වීම් ශාලාවේ දී පැවැත්විණි. වාග්විද්‍යා අංශයේ විද්‍යාර්ථීන් විසින් පළ කරනු ලැබූ 16 වන පරිවර්තිත කෙටිකතා සංග්‍රහය මෙය යි. ප්‍රංශ ජාතික ලේඛක ගී ද මෝපසොංගේ කෙටිකතා 27ක සිංහල පරිවර්තන මේ කෘතියේ ඇතුළත් ය.

කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයීය උපකුලපති ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ මහාචාර්ය නිලන්ති ද සිල්වා මැතිණියගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් පැවති මේ උලෙළේ ආරාධිත දේශනය සිදු කරන ලද්දේ සම්මානිත මහාචාර්ය ආර්. එම්. ඩබ්ලිව්. රාජපක්ෂ මහතා විසිනි. මානවශාස්ත්‍ර පීඨාධිපති ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ කථිකාචර්ය සුදත් සෙනරත් මහතා, වාග්විද්‍යා අංශප්‍රධාන ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ කථිකාචර්ය කුමුදු නයනී ගමගේ මහත්මිය ඇතුළු ව වාග්විද්‍යා අංශයේ ආචාර්ය මණ්ඩලය මේ අවස්ථාවට සහභාගි වූ අතර විද්‍යාර්ථීන් සහ ඔවුන්ගේ දෙමව්පියන් සම්බන්ධ වූයේ Zoom තාක්ෂණය ඔස්සේ ය.

In this 3 hour event, Dr. Aruna Keerthi Gamage, by illustrating a wealth of substantial evidence from commentarial sources, refuted all the erroneous views of Prof. Somadewa, and insisted on the authenticity of Pali sources in studying History on Archelogy.

Mid-Autumn Festival Tea Party

On September 21,2020,Confucius Institute at University of Kelaniya held a tea party for the important Chinese Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival. Ven.Prof. Nedalagamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Mr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Dilrukshi Rathnayake, Head of Modern Language Department were invited to the party. All the teachers in Chinese Language Unit attended the party. Acting Co - Director Dr. E.Jani Alwis Samarakoon and Chinese Director Prof. Wang Jun hosted the party.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival party, some Chinese Bridge contestants this year brought us wonderful performance. The first prize winner in Chinese Bridge competition also showed us the beautiful video he made introducing his hometown Galle, which will be his entry for on-line Chinese Bridge Final in China this year. All the teachers in the party were impressed by their excellent performance. Chinese teacher Prof. Tang Ying displayed Chinese Tea Art, which enabled everyone in the party to get more understanding about Chinese Tea Culture.
Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival falls on October 1 this year, which happened to be the same day as Poya Day in Sri Lanka. On this traditional Chinese Festival, family members usually get together, eating mooncakes, fruits, enjoying beautiful full moon. It’s a time for harvest and family reunion. Therefore, on this special occasion, the Chinese teachers and local teachers and students are like family members, having a good time together.
Linguistics Parshad AGM and Linguistics Fresher’s welcome 2020

The Annual General Meeting of the Linguistics Parshad for the year 2020 and the fresher’s welcome were held on 14th September 2020 at K28 001 hall with the presence of the dean of the faculty of Humanities Senior Lecturer Sudath Senerath, Head of the Department of Linguistics Senior Lecturer Kumudu Gamage and the academic and non-academic staff of the Department and Students.
