A Certificate Course in Tamil for Foreign Students was commenced on 8th of November 2022 at the University of Kelaniya under the supervision of the Department of Linguistics.
This course was initiated by the Department of Linguistics, University of Kelaniya upon a request made by the Department of Tamil, School of South Asian and Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures, Yunnan Minzu University in China, and the course duration is a period of 12 months (one year).
It was commenced with the induction of Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, Senior Lecturer Kumudu Gamage, Former Head of the Department of Linguistics, Dr Kavithaa Rajaratnam, Current Head of the Department of Linguistics, and Ven. Udagaladeniye Dhammawimala Thero, Lecturer in Tamil and the Course Coordinator. As the initial step, the first student Shi YiDi successfully completed the course on 7th of December 2023, and went back to China.
