The Wushu Camp 2022 - Orientation program was organized by the Wushu team, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute of University of Kelaniya. It was held on the 24th of September 2022, at the new gymnasium premises, with Dr. Wu Hong Yuan, Co-Director of Confucius Institute and Senior professor S. R. D. Kalingamudali, Chairman of the Sports Advisory Board, Dean of the Faculty of Science as the honorable chief guests.
The guest panel comprised of Mr. Cheng Huaqiang, Deputy General Manager of China Construction International South Asia Company, Dr. Jani Samarakoon, Co-Director of Confucius Institute, the staff of the Confucius Institute, the instructors Mr. Aravinda Athukorala, Mr. Ruwan Chathuranga from the Sports Council of University of Kelaniya, along with Mr. Ruchira Bodhinagoda, Head Coach of SL Navy, Wushu coach at University of Kelaniya.
The beginning, evolution, styles and various insights about the martial art named Wushu were shared at this event. The event was concluded with a stunning performance of the Wushu team, including former Wushu team members.
The Mid-Autumn festival Cultural lecture was successfully held online on 21st September 2022. Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Dilrukshi Ratnayake, Head, The Department of Modern Languages, Dr. Wu Hongyuan, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute (China Side), Dr. Jani Samarakoon, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute (Sri Lankan Side), Staff members in Chinese Unit and staff members of Confucius Institute participated in this event. More than 100 Undergraduates participated in this event. The program was announced by Ms. Shashini Kumarasinghe and Ms. Wayani Kariyawasam.
Then, Ms. He Yanling and Dr. Jani Samarakoon explained much information to the students regarding the Mid-Autumn festival. In particular, the history of this festival, legend story, and the rituals of the Mid-Autumn festival were introduced.
Ms. Sun Ying introduced poems related to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Then a questions and answers program was successfully conducted to test the knowledge of the students.

The food preparation and cultural event held in connection with the Mid-Autumn festival. This event was successfully conducted on 23rd September 2022 at 3:00 PM at Dharmaloka Hall. Another important point in this activity is that it was impossible to physically participate in the ceremonies due to the epidemic situation that has been going on for two years. This is also the first event that was physically organized by the Confucius Institute after the establishment of the university this year.
Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Dilrukshi Ratnayake, Head of the Department of Modern Languages, Dr. Wu Hongyuan, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute (China Side), Dr. Jani Samarakoon, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute (Sri Lankan Side) and Mrs. Cai Xin Xin and her team members for the preparation of Chinese food, the staff of the Chinese Unit and the staff of the Confucius Institute also participated in the event. More than 100 undergraduate students of the Chinese Language Unit and students of the Weekend Certificate Course In Chinese Language participated in this event. The program was announced by Ms. Shashini Kumarasinghe and Ms. Wayani Kariyawasam.
The ceremony was followed by the welcome speech by Dr. Jani Samarakoon, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute (Sri Lanka), Dr. Wu Hongyuan, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute (China), and the Inaugural Speech by Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. Then the event officially started.
The event was colorful with the magnificent cultural elements of the students of the Chinese language unit, and then the main purpose of the event, the Moon cake preparation program, was conducted in a very lively with the participation of the students.
On 3rd of September 2022, the Confucius Institute, University of Kelaniya successfully conducted the fourth HSK and HSKK home-based online examination of the year. 93 candidates were participated in this examination.
As there are beginner level candidates, the Confucius Institute, University of Kelaniya conducted three online zoom meetings before the exam. Although pre-exam practice is very helpful for the candidates to get a better understanding of the exam procedures. But problems caused by network latency were common. During the exam day several students also experienced network issues. but especially with the great patience and dedication of all the exam invigilators, as well as the technical support and assistance of Chinese Test International, the test was carried out on schedule and successfully completed.
